Q: I am trying to plan a trip to Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe…

Question:

I am trying to plan a trip to Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Can you help me with a visa question? It looks like I can get a visa at the airport in Kenya, but as far as I can find out they suggest to get a visa for Zimbabwe here in Canada. Of course you pay more getting them here. Is that necessary? Any information would help.

Answer:

We spoke with the Zimbabwean embassy, who confirmed that both options you mentioned (obtaining the visa ahead of travel as well as at a port of entry) are possible.

If you are going to Zimbabwe as a visitor (tourist), the easiest solution is to purchase the visa at the port of entry in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean embassy confirmed that this is a simple process that takes approximately 15–20 minutes and costs US $75 (cash is preferred, but not mandatory).

Others who apply for the visa prior to travelling to Zimbabwe often do not have the option of obtaining it at a port of entry (due to the nature of their travel, nationality, etc.), or they prefer to have peace of mind knowing that all documents are set to go before they land at their destination.

It costs CDN $100 (payable by money order) to apply prior to travelling and takes up to 10 business days to process.

The details for the visa application can be found here.

Please feel free to let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Thank you and bon voyage!
